SCHOLARSHIPS: CRITERIA & APPLICATION

Overview

The Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania is a non-profit foundation sponsoring a scholarship program dedicated to supporting Pennsylvania residents who are pursuing a program of basic (LPN, Diploma, AD, BSN, BSN Completion) or advanced degree in nursing (Masters, Doctoral - DNP, DNS), and PhD education in a Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing approved program. We will also accept applications from students attending nursing school online, but your intention must be to work as a nurse in Pennsylvania. To apply, you MUST be a resident of Pennsylvania.

We invite qualified candidates to apply for scholarships that will be awarded in the 
Spring to be expended in the Fall semester (except for PhD awards that will be funded over the grant period). Scholarships are available to be used for tuition, books, and/or educational feesThe Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania hope that it is your intent to practice nursing in Pennsylvania.

Criteria & Application Process for Non-PhD Nursing Scholarships

Scholarships Being Awarded

Scholarships in the following non-PhD categories will be awarded, provided there are qualified applicants. The dollar amount of each scholarship varies from year to year and is dependent upon the support we receive for our Foundation.

  • Diploma
  • Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)
  • Associate Degree (AD)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion
  • Advanced Degree - Masters (to include CNS, CNM, CRNA, CRNP and the like)
  • Advanced Degree - Doctoral (to include DNP & DNS)

Application Process

  • Complete the online Non-PhD Scholarship Application, including Personal Statement of Commitment. You MUST be a resident of Pennsylvania.
  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation, which address the selection criteria below (at least one letter must be from a nursing faculty member). All letters of recommendation must have applicant's name, as well as the address, telephone number, and email address of the person writing the recommendation. You are able to request letters of recommendation to be uploaded through the online application's system.
  • Submit your transcript of grades that includes the most recently completed semester with the required course in nursing. High school students may not apply. You must have completed at least one semester in nursing.
  • Submit a copy of your letter of acceptance or its equivalent into the nursing program with a beginning date being identified.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, leadership potential as evidenced by special honors and/or special recognition, community service, and personal commitment to the profession of nursing. 

Criteria & Application Process for PhD Scholarship Applicants

Scholarship Being Awarded

One PhD scholarship will be awarded, provided there are qualified applicants. The dollar amount of the scholarship varies from year to year and is dependent upon the support we receive for our Foundation.

Application Process

  • Complete the online PhD Scholarship Application, including Personal Statement of Commitment 
    You MUST be a resident of Pennsylvania.
  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation, which address the selection criteria below (at least one letter must be from a PhD Advisor). All letters of recommendation must have applicant's name, as well as the address, telephone number, and email address of the person writing the recommendation. You are able to request letters of recommendation to be uploaded through the online application's system.
  • Submit your transcript of grades that includes the most recently completed semester and includes the required course in nursing.
  • Submit a copy of your letter of acceptance or its equivalent into the PhD nursing program with a beginning date being identified.
  • Submit an abstract summarizing your proposal.
  • Submit a one-page budget for your project.
  • Submit evidence that your proposal has been reviewed and approved by an established ethical review board at the institution or site where you plan to conduct the study. Include appropriate support letters.
  • Submit the completed signature page. You will need to obtain signatures from your Advisor, Program Chair and Institutional Representative OR Financial Officer. 

The application, including all required materials, must be complete at the time of submission to be considered. Each project may only be submitted for one award per funding cycle.
